| HISTORY |
In the late 1800s
with no spuds in the larder, the O'Carrollyn clan set out
from Ireland in the HMS O'Shamrock for the promised land of
Australia. After sighting land at dusk through the mist near
Port Stephens, they hit the booze and danced to celebrate.
Unfortunately, in their merriment they missed the Heads and
ended up on the rock of Boulder Bay. Great, great grandad
O'Carrollyn changed his name to Carroll, and using his impeccable
experience in serving refreshments, became the second publican
of the Sea Breeze Hotel in Nelson Bay. Weighing over 2.5 tons,
the large anchor in the driveway of O'Carrollyns is from the
wreck of the HMS O'Shamrock.
